Trustsports gathered from a reliable source that the Nigerian Embassy in Khartoum last Thursday said he would visit the Management of the Club in the next few days to see what efforts they are making towards redeeming the promise believed to have been made about the up-keep of the late player’s wife and children.

Our source quoted the Nigerian Ambassador as saying “My mission would be to ascertain, on the basis of the terms of the Agreement signed between the Football Club and the late Nigerian striker what is left, if any, of any entitlement yet to be paid to him. I also wish to formally follow-up a promise believed to have been made by the late player’s club about the issue of maintaining the two kids left behind by the Nigerian Footballer”.

According to the source, Ahmed-Sambo also praised the Management of El- Merreikh for the concern they showed when the player died.

 “They chartered a whole air craft and sent over 50 of the Club’s top Officials and El- Merreikh supporters that accompanied the late player’s remains back to Benin City, through Abuja, Nigeria. That gesture is worthy of commendation”.

 The Ambassador is said to have also praised the solidarity which other Nigerian footballers based in Sudan showed when Idahor died. The Ambassador pointed out that the very morning after the day the player died, tens of footballers of Nigerian extraction who are playing with various Khartoum-based football clubs trooped to the Nigerian Embassy to commiserate with him on the demise of their colleague.

“There are almost 50 of them [Nigerian players] who are based in Khartoum and its environs. They trooped in here the morning after Idahor died to commiserate with us,’’ he said.

Idahor, a former Nigerian U-23 National team player, died while playing for EL-Merreikh in a league match against another Sudanese side, Al-Amal FC
