He is said to have passed away in the wee hours of Thursday, October 24, 2014 (6PM New York time) at his home, days after being discharged from the Maryland Medical Center, in Maryland, US where he was undergoing treatment for colon cancer.
Reports state that his wife, Marie, confirmed the incidence. “Yes he has passed away. I’ve reached the family, they are aware right now.”
According to NET, two days earlier, she disclosed that “the hospital advised that there was nothing more that they could do and that it would be better he spends the rest of the little time he has left with family.”
The couple has a daughter together named Fatemma.
According to Amego’s friend, US-based Nigerian journalist and writer, Azuka Jebose Molokwu who spoke with him a few hours before he gave up the ghost, the ‘Funky Mallam’ “expressed appreciations for the support, empathy that blanketed his life since his family went public with his health challenges.”
Reports also say the family has released burial plans according to Islamic rites. He was buried the same day at the Prince George’s Muslim Association Hall.
