The Amnesty International in Nigeria will soon embark on a sensitisation campaign in various schools to educate students on fundamental human rights.
This was disclosed by the director of the group in Nigeria, Ambassador Muhammed Kawu Ibrahim while chatting with Daily Trust in Abuja.
“Amnesty International deals basically with human rights. We are going to educate Nigerians more on their rights, starting from primary to secondary schools, up to university level. We want Nigerians to be educated on their rights,” he said.
He said the group decided to embark on the campaign when they discovered that many Nigerians didn’t know their rights. According to him, many Nigerians didn’t know that they shouldn’t be detained for more than 24 hours without being taken to court.
