Amosun made the promise at the MKO Abiola Stadium, on the occasion of the final of the 2011 Chairman’s Cup Football Competition among local government councils.

The governor, who was represented by Mr Gbenga Otenuga, the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, described the standard of play by the competing teams as encouraging and competitive.

“If properly managed, these players can easily fit into some of the age-grade national teams in no distant future.

“We are going to do our best to develop them and also discover more talents that can grow to make the nation proud,’’ he said.

The governor advised all the 774 local government councils in the country to embark on massive grassroots sport development by organising similar competitions.

Alhaji Ganiu Majekodunmi, the Chairman, Ogun Football Association, expressed the readiness of the association to collaborate with well-meaning Nigerians to develop football in the state and the country.

Ewekoro Local Government defeated Ifo Local Government 2-0 to lift the trophy. (NAN)
