The Chairman, Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers (ESCTR), Oba Ajibade Adebanji Alabi, has said that the establishment of the Western Nigeria Security Network, otherwise known as ‘Amotekun’, would in no small measure help in protecting lives and property.

Oba Alabi, who is the Alawe of Ilawe Ekiti, said the traditional institution in the state would be key to ensuring the success of the security outfit, with traditional rulers playing critical roles to ensure peace reigns across the state.

The Alawe, who made the remarks yesterday while addressing journalists on his first year in office as the ESCTR Chairman, said the welfare of monarchs in the state had become a priority to the state government due to the Council’s proactive and constant engagement with it.

He said, “In the area of security, our council under me in the last one year has done a lot that have resulted in the peace we are enjoying now.

“The traditional institution is closer to the people and we have a very critical role to play in ensuring the security of lives and property of our people. The peace we are enjoying now can be

attributed to our efforts in the last one year, and we will continue to do that, especially now that we have Amotekun.”

He described the misunderstanding in the council as “a family

affair”, which he said had been put to rest, “with all the traditional rulers now on the same page, in the interest of peace and development in their domains.”

Oba Alabi commended the Ekiti State governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, for what he said was his respect for and interest in traditional institutions.

He disclosed that Gov Fayemi had constructed a befitting chamber for the monarchs in the state, which he said would soon be commissioned.
