Etemire told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lagos that he was happy to win his first trophy as a professional football coach.

“I am happy today (Friday) to call myself a coach. This is my first achievement and I am proud of this feat. I dedicate this victory to God.

“My players listened to instructions and learnt from previous mistakes in the games played earlier. I wish the late Yemi Tella was here to present this trophy to me,’’ he said.

Amuneke emerged winners of the tournament after overcoming Norrison 4-2 to lift the trophy at the indoor hall of the National Institute of Sports, National Stadium Lagos.

Meanwhile, Donatus Okeke, Coach of Norrison, expressed disappointment at the way his players performed.

He berated them for failing to comply with the match plan they had agreed on.

“After my team scored two goals, I instructed them to defend all through, in other to soak up the pressure; but they played otherwise by attacking and leaving the defence open.

“ I am not happy at all. This is the first time I am losing in the finals of a competition. We were the defending champions and we couldn’t retain our title,’’ he said.

Amuneke had to claw their way back into the match after falling behind to Norrison’s, Chibuzor Obi’s brace in the highly entertaining encounter.

NAN reports that Amuneke, after relentlessly bombarding Norrison defence line, was finally rewarded with goals from, Bernard Igwe who scored a brace and complemented by Ernest Obi and Taiwo Ibrahim.

Football fans that thronged the venue of the match were highly entertained. (NAN)
