The Coalition of Northern Youth Organizations has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Amb. M. S. Aboki Bulama, the coalition described the appointment as a demonstration of the President’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy and improving the credibility of the electoral process.

The group noted that Prof. Amupitan, an academic and legal expert with vast experience in the Law of Evidence, Corporate Governance, and Privatization, possesses the requisite competence to lead INEC effectively.

“The appointment of Professor Amupitan aligns with our aspiration for a transparent, accountable, and credible electoral system,” the statement read. “We are confident that under his leadership, the Commission will implement reforms that will enhance public trust and ensure free and fair elections in 2027.”

The coalition congratulated Prof. Amupitan on his appointment and urged him to justify the confidence reposed in him by delivering an electoral process that meets international standards.

It also pledged to collaborate with INEC in mobilizing young Nigerians to participate actively in the electoral process, noting that youth engagement remains crucial to the success of future elections.

While reaffirming its support for the Tinubu administration, the coalition expressed optimism that ongoing reforms would further consolidate democracy and promote good governance across the country.
