An appeal to Governor Zulum

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State

Let me, first of all, commend you Mr. Governor for your various development strides in Borno State.  Of particular interest is the construction of a fly-over bridge at the Custom Junction and the dualisation of the road leading to Chad Basin.  Similar consideration of the construction of a flyover bridge at the Post Office and West End junctions would further go a long way in easing the traffic congestions in these locations.

However, my major area of concern is the issue of the provision of infrastructure such as roads and drainages in many parts of the Maiduguri metropolis.  It is unfortunate that during this rainy season, many areas in Maiduguri have become impassable due to floods occasioned by a lack of drainages.  Sadly, even government-established residential areas such as the ones behind the Maiduguri Capital School and 211 Residential Area are indeed a herculean task to walk around during the rainy season.  Particularly, the 211 residential area, which is considered as the third extension to the Government Residential Area (GRA), has been abandoned for a long time with infrastructural deficits such as road and drainage which made commuting difficult for the residents living there.

I, therefore appeal, to the governor to kindly look into the plight of the residents of the 211 specifically, who have been facing untold hardship with their families due to the poor infrastructure for years.  The North East Development Commission should also partner with the state government to provide the infrastructure needed in some of these areas more so that the movement of people displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency had contributed to the increase in population in the Maiduguri metropolis with the attendant pressure on most of the settlements.
