The state chapter of the party should not allow itself to be distracted by attempts by some individuals to mislead the people. The rational thing for the PDP to do is to allow the ticket of Jibrin Isah to stand because, the opposition is waiting to cash in on PDP’s undoing by not fielding a sellable candidate like Jibrin Isah.
Isah recently promised that, come December 3, 2011 if he becomes the governor of the state through popular mandate of the people, he would embark on the revitalization of the moribund Ajaokuta Steel Company as one of the priorities of his government. According to Isah, “Apart from the key production plants producing items for local consumption and export, the state government will set up, by way of Backward Integration, small scale industries that will make use of the by-products so there will be zero tolerance for wastages.”
The investment banker also proposed an international standard model city to be developed at the border between Kogi and the Federal Capital, which is to be linked with a fast train as a way of boosting Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the State. Brilliant idea!
He also pledged that the latent solid mineral resources of the state would be harnessed through partnership with investors, adding that such partnership would guarantee the empowerment of the people of the state.
Isah had this to say recently on his ambition, “My decision to offer myself for the highest leadership position in Kogi State is firmly anchored on a deep introspection about the challenges ahead. It is therefore a conscious decision that is informed about a clear mission and vision on the basis of which citizens of Kogi State will demand accountability.
“I volunteer for service to God Almighty & humanity. I volunteer to serve Kogi State, my people with all my heart and all my might…” Period!
This display of sterling qualities have endeared Isah to the people of Kogi state as attested to by prominent Kogi indigenes and leaders of thought.
For instance, Barrister Ada Mohammed, State Legal adviser of the party recently said: “there is no time lapse in the constitution or the Electoral Act for any candidate who secures the party’s ticket to contest any election in the country and our position on this issue has been made known to the National Secretariat of our great party.”
John Odawn, the immediate past State Chairman of the Party (PDP) recently assured that the candidature of Alhaji Jibrin Isah (Echocho) as the flag bearer of (PDP) in Kogi State still stands. Chief Odawn gave the assurance at a reception organized in honour of the elected House of Representatives member representing Dekina/Bassa and other elected Kogi State House of Assembly members held in Dekina recently.
From all indications, it is in the best interest of the state and the party to retain the candidature of Echocho in the forthcoming governorship election in Kogi State.
