ANA Abuja gets new EXCO

The new EXCO headed by Mr. Edwin Oribhabor was elected Thursday at the branch’s Annual General Meeting which held at the Korean Cultural Centre and will replace that headed by Dr. Seyi Adigun, who had been at the helm in the capital over the last four years.

Most of the offices were returned unopposed but that of the chair was contested by journalist and poet Ben Ubiri and Edwin Oribhabor, who eventually won with a difference of seven votes.

Other members of the new executive include Mr. Patrick Oguejiofor as Vice Chairman, Joy Okoduwa as Secretary with Salamatu Suleiman as her assistant while Barrister Obia Edwin emerged the new legal adviser with Lucas Ishaya as the Financial Secretary. Jerry Adesewo was elected ex officio member.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Oribhabor promised to move the association to greater heights with the support of the members, he also promised to revamp the membership of the body.

While congratulating the new exco, the President of the association, Prof. Remi Raji said Abuja is strategically important to the association as a “virtual window”.

“You are enjoined to convey the spirit of harmony among yourselves, and towards other such legitimate literary groups that are established in the FCT, believing that you are important members of a historic association without compare in Nigeria and in Africa. This is the only way by which we can move forward. When we make use of the mistakes of the past as experience, the present won’t be mere experiment because we can’t afford to fritter away the goodwill and the future of our Association,” he said through his representative, Richard Ali, the PRO North of the association.
