The event which held at the Area 1 Garden had seven schools slugging it out to emerge tops.

Speaking before the contest, Mallam Denja Abdullahi, the Vice President of ANA said in his keynote address that efforts to revive the reading culture will only succeed if factors that caused its collapse are addressed.

He said a break in the book production chain, which he said comprised of the writers, the publishers and distributors, caused the collapse as writers could not find publishers for their works and poor distribution ensured that books did not get to potential readers.

He called on students to challenge themselves on reading and use the internet for intellectual growth rather than as a distraction.

At the end of the second round of the quiz, which was based on students’ grasps of some Nigerian literature text earlier supplied to them, Regina Pacis School clinched first prize with a score of 15 points, beating GSS Garki into second place with eight points and Model Secondary School, Maitama into third place with six points.

The schools were presented with prizes and certificates as reward for their participation.
