ANA Abuja hosts students’ reading campaign

The campaign is in furtherance of the collaboration between Yusuf Ali (SAN) and the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) on a national literary awareness campaign in sixteen states of the federation. Yusuf Ali has endowed three million naira for this annual event aimed at making students interested in reading non-curriculum books.
The FCT campaign event which kicked off on 5th of June 2012 is in two phases; first is donation of books between the 5th and 8th of June 2012, and a book quiz competition which holds on Thursday June 28.
The schools selected to participate in the competition include: Government Secondary School, Maitama; Government Secondary School, Wuse; Government Secondary School, Kubwa; Government Secondary School, Garki; Eco International School, Kubwa; Ragina Pacis College, Garki; Government Secondary School, Lugbe, Government Secondary School (Gifted) Gwagwalada,
The students are expected to read five texts donated by the association; ‘Purple Hibiscus’ by Chimamanda Adichie, ‘The Scavengers’ by Ozioma Izuora, ‘Women of Owu’ by Femi Osofisan, ‘Under a Darkling Cloud’ by Isaac Atta-Ogezi, ‘Abuja Nunyi’ by Denja Abdullahi and ‘Drums of Curfew’ by Patrick Oguejiofor.
These texts will be used for the quiz competition coming up later in the month, followed by prize giving and award ceremony, which according to the Chairman of ANA Abuja, Mr. Eriata Oribabhor will come up at the Zoological Garden in Garki Abuja this Thursday.
