ANA Abuja reaches out to the army

This was proposed by the chairman of the chapter, Dr. Seyi Adigun who led members of the chapter on a courtesy call to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. A. B Danbazau at the army headquarters in Abuja during the week.

Dr. Adigun described the army as a “nest of intellectual resources” saying that is why the association has chosen to reach out to tap from the many talents in the army.

“The Nigerian Army is a nest of serious intellectual resources and that is why we have come to show our solidarity to the army and identify projects where we feel we have a common ground where we feel the Nigerian army will make a great partner with us,” he said.

He proposed the Nigerian Army Golden Pen Award for literary enthusiasts in the army, noting that there have been many outstanding writers in the army such as the late Gen. Mamman Vatsa, who was a renowned poet with several published works.

Dr. Adigun also called for a joint reading with members of the army to foster closer ties between writers and soldiers.

Reacting, Gen Danbazau, who was with some of his principal officers, thanked the association for the visit and said the depth of intellects in the army has been greatly underestimated, saying most officers in the army have masters degrees and have been contributing to the fields of medicine, engineering and the likes.

He pledged to assist the association in pursuing its objectives adding that there are many officers who have published books of poetry and said he will make their names available to the writers’ body to foster closer ties.

The association presented a number of books by Nigerian authors to the COAS who in turned presented them with a souvenir.
