The one day event themed “Nigeria in 2010: 50 Past, 50 Next”, will be chaired by the national president of the association, Dr. Jerry Agada and will be holding at the Multi-Purpose Hall of the Education Resource Centre, Wuse, Zone 7.

The convention, which was earlier scheduled for April this year had to be postponed as the tenure of the then executives of the chapter had elapsed as the chairman, Dr. Seyi Adigun explained, “Our tenure had expired and we were not ready for the convention then which included the AGM and election, so we decided to just have our election and leave the convention for the incoming executives.”

He has just been reelected to another two year term.

The convention which also serves as the chapter’s commemoration of the 2010 International Literacy Day will feature roundtable sessions on Indigenous language writing, children literature development and social change and the role of media in the development and sustainability of a reading culture.

The keynote address will be delivered by Mr. Deji Fisho, banker and author of the motivational book Switch. He is also the Managing Director of Fortis Micro-finance Bank. While Dr. Fatima Akilu, Dr. Isiaka Aliagan and Kareem Baba Aminu will also deliver theme talks on various topics during the round table session which has Dr. Kabura Zakama, Lady Brisibe Dorgu, Dr. Bibi Bakare-Yussuf and Dr. Lizy Ben Iheanacho as discussants.

Storyteller, Sage, Lady I, Mac Father G, Ayo Babatope, Joan Orji and a host of other writer members are all billed to feature in the event as they entertain with performances and reading from their books.

Director-General of the National Institute for Cultural Orientation, Dr. Barclays Ayakoroma and the Executive Secretary of Federal Judicial Service Commission and financer of the annual Engineer Mohammed Bashir Karaye Prize for Writings in Hausa Language administered by ANA Abuja, Hajiya Bilkisu Abdulmalik Bashir will grace the event as Special Guests of Honour.
