During the session, which was hosted by the national President of the Association, Dr Wale Okediran, the celebrant and other members of ANA treated the gathering to readings from Denja’s books and other works.

Speaking at the occasion, Dr Wale Okediran, who was himself once a secretary of the Association, narrated how Denja, in the company of a few other members, “conscripted” him to contest for the presidency of the association.

He described Denja as a hard working member of the Association’s executive council and a conscientious team player who was always ready to execute his responsibility as the secretary of the association.

Others who spoke during the special reading session were Eugenia Abu, Ahmed Maiwada, Odoh Diego Okenyodo, and Dr Jerry Agada. All of them spoke of how Denja’s encouragement was influential in ensuring the evolution of successful writers.

A native of Kogi State, Denja works with the National Council for Arts and Culture as an assistant director, Performing Arts.  His works include Mairogo (a poetry book on the travels of an ‘itinerant mad man’, published in 2001) and The Talking Drum (another poetry collection published in 2008). His latest book, also a work of poetry, is Abuja Nunyi (This is Abuja, which speaks on various aspects of life in the Federal Capital Territory).
