The leadership of the Association of Nigerian Authors, (ANA), has said it remains committed to the development of a modern Writers Village. 

This was made known in a communiqué of the National Executive Council meeting of ANA signed by the president, Denja Abdullahi, and the General Secretary, Dr. Ofonime Inyang.   

The statement said the 36th International Convention of the association, with the theme ‘Canons, Prizes, and Boundaries: African Writings and Writers in World Literature’, would be held from October 26 to 29, 2017 with the core objective of providing yet another occasion for brainstorming on role and relevance as the intellectual epicentre of culture, creativity and talent preservation in the country and continent.

Also, that “new programmes, initiatives and activities that will engender increase creative opportunities for writers in the country such as the Young Writers Mentorship Scheme (YWMS), A-Book-A-Child Project, International Conferences on Indigenous Literature and New Writings and Criticisms have been lined up for the year and shall be carefully planned and executed to produce desired goals.”

The Writers Village located in Mpape, Abuja is to be ANA’s creative hub as enumerated in the Strategic Plan of Action developed and ratified by the council.
