The colloquium with the theme: 50 Years of J.P Clark’s Writing: Casualties, Innovations and Perspectives, is planned for the University of Lagos June 24 to 27 with keynote address by a yet to be determined ‘prominent African writer’ and plenary sessions, where scholars will present papers that will later form the body of a book to commemorate the event.
Pre-conference activities are being planned for the author’s village Kiagbodo, and Asaba all in his native Delta State June 10th to 12th. There will also be a competition on adaptations of his works of prose and poetry to stage, a statement signed by the association’s General Secretary, Hyacinth Obunseh, said.
Also, the association has opened the door for its annual literary prizes with its call for submissions. The 2010 prizes of cash rewards in various categories will be awarded to writers at the association’s annual convention in Akure, Ondo State in October.
According to the statement, creative writers in the various fields of prose, poetry, drama and children fictions are invited to submit six copies of their works in each category to the office of the Secretary General at Suite 67, National Theatre Complex, Iganmu Lagos along with a covering letter which should contain full contact details (emails, surface mail and telephone contact) of the authors. The contest is also open to Nigerian writers resident outside the country. Entries close on Wednesday, March 31 while a shortlist is expected to be announced in October. The entries which can be for any or several of the following categories must not have been entered before and must have been published between 2009 and 2010:

GUIDELINES FOR TEEN AUTHOR PRIZES
1. Entrants must be students in any secondary school in Nigeria.
2. Entries must be a collection or a single story of between 25 – 40 pages for prose; between 25 – 40 poems for poetry.
3. Illustration (optional).
4. Accompanying documents are:
(i) Letter of identification from school principals on letter headed papers bearing name, signature and stamp with the entrants’ two passport photographs, name, school, age (attach birth certificate)
(ii) Entrants admission letters (Photocopy).
iii) Current cumulative record of entrant’s academic performance (Junior or Secondary School).
(iv) Letter of consent from parents/Principal.
(v) Entrant’s email, and surface mail addresses and phone contact.
5. Unpublished entries (in four copies) should be properly bound.
