Anambra- State community leader, Chief Tony Onyeagolu, has commended Governor Charles Soludo for the establishment of the Agunechemba security outfit, which aims to ensure the safety of lives and property across the state.

Chief Onyeagolu urged the Agunechemba security outfit to remain steadfast in their commitment to community security and justice, stressing that they should not be distracted by those who continue to tarnish the state’s reputation.

He made this statement while responding to the recent publication regarding the detention of Mr. Onyemazu Ngini by the Agunechemba security outfit over his alleged involvement in land grabbing and leading a criminal group, using a youth leader as a cover.

Chief Onyeagolu said the importance of clarifying his position and the reasons for his involvement in the matter, as allegations have emerged against both himself and the Agunechemba operatives by individuals advocating for Ngini’s release without trial.

As the former President General (PG), he is fully aware of the serious implications of the accusations being made against Mr. Ngini.

“I firmly assert that the focus should remain on the legitimate investigative efforts addressing the serious crimes allegedly committed by Mr. Ngini, rather than being distracted by irrelevant discussions surrounding my past position and actions. It has been implied that my history as the former PG has somehow influenced the narrative surrounding this incident. However, let it be clear: my decisions, which were under the oversight of the relevant authorities, were always made in the interest of maintaining order and ensuring community safety,” he stated.

According to Onyeagolu, the allegations against Mr. Ngini, including land theft and involvement with armed individuals, are serious and should not be dismissed lightly, calling for a thorough investigation into the matter.

He commended Chief Ken Emeakayi, the leader of the Agunechemba operatives, for his dedication to ensuring the safety of various communities and addressing the rising insecurity across the state.

“It is crucial that we do not allow personal grievances or past political rivalries to cloud our judgment on matters of public safety and justice. The community deserves transparency and accountability,” he added.

The community leader encouraged the family and representatives of Mr. Ngini to provide concrete evidence that counters the claims against him, rather than making unfounded allegations that aim to deflect attention from the issue at hand.

“Simply asserting his character does not absolve him from scrutiny. The rule of law must prevail, and if any party is found engaging in wrongful conduct or is protected by influential networks, the law must take its course,”Onyeagolu said.

He further claimed that Mr. Onyemazu Ngini had been declared wanted by the Nigerian Police for various criminal activities, including involvement in kidnappings and firing at police officers from Zone 13, IRT, and Anti-Cult units, who had made several attempts to arrest him.

He commended the Agunechemba security outfit for successfully apprehending the notorious suspect, and urged them to conduct a thorough investigation into all of Ngini’s activities before either charging him in court or handing him over to the Inspector General of Police for further legal action.

He expressed his confusion over why one Barrister Mike Anyaegbunam would mislead his clients in an effort to extort money generated from Mr. Ngini’s land grabbing activities.

“Mr. Ngini is not the only person who has been invited or detained by the new security outfit. They act based on concrete evidence and information before making such arrests,” Chief Onyeagolu pointed out.

It still astonishes residents of Isuaniocha how Mr. Ngini and his gang challenged Nigerian Police officers to the extent that several officers sustained gunshot wounds.

“If Agunechemba invites you, go there and clear yourself. If they determine you are not being truthful based on the facts and investigations they have conducted, then it is not for a legal practitioner to start calling names and making baseless allegations,” he added.

Onyeagolu called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to look beyond distractions and focus on the pressing issues in Isuaniocha, including acting on the white paper submitted by a panel of inquiry set up in the past.

“The safety of our community demands attention to the critical concerns of crime and the integration of community-led security initiatives, which should not be hindered by unfounded personal accusations,” he emphasized.

The former President General of Isuaniocha urged everyone to unite against crime and work together to ensure the community thrives in peace and harmony.
