With weeks to the November 8 Anambra governorship election, a civic-tech organisation, Citizen Monitors, has launched a web-based platform to enable voters report real-time developments from polling units across the state.

The initiative, according to the organisation, is aimed at promoting electoral transparency and citizen participation by allowing users to upload photos, videos, and brief accounts of events during voting and result collation.

Speaking at the launch in Abuja on Monday, the group’s Head of Communications, Olajumoke Alawode-James, said the platform would serve as a public evidence base for election-day activities.

“The web app allows users to capture, upload, and view real-time reports from polling units, creating a public record that promotes transparency,” she said.

Alawode-James explained that each report uploaded to the platform would carry a timestamp and GPS location for verification. Reports would also undergo peer review before being displayed on a public dashboard showing live updates from across the state.

She said the platform’s goal is to encourage citizens to observe the process calmly and responsibly.

“Election day should be clear, not chaotic. The platform helps citizens document events safely and without confrontation,” she noted.

Citizen Monitors emphasised that the app does not announce or project election results, as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) remains the only authority empowered to declare winners.

“Our role is simply to make verifiable information available to the public,” Alawode-James said.

To participate, users are required to create an account on www.citizenmonitors.com, complete a short onboarding process, and follow safety guidelines when using the platform on election day.
