Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mr John Chuma Nwosu, has described Saturday’s governorship election in Anambra State as a setback for democratic values.

Reacting to the declaration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo as winner of the poll, Nwosu said the exercise fell short of expectations, alleging irregularities in parts of the state.

Refusing to comment on possible legal action, he stated that “true victory is judged not by the outcome, but by the integrity of the process.”

“The election did not reflect the will of the people. Any process tainted by irregularities cannot represent genuine democracy,” he said.

Nwosu noted that his campaign was aimed at promoting transparency, accountability, and innovation in governance, stressing that the struggle for a better Anambra would continue.

“Our mission has never been about winning at all costs. It was about redefining governance and building a new Anambra anchored on values, transparency, and a secure state driven by innovation,” he said.

He also called on relevant institutions to strengthen the electoral process and ensure fairness in future elections.

“The conscience of our democracy must be protected. When the system upholds fairness, citizens can have faith in the process,” he added.

The ADC flagbearer appreciated his supporters, campaign team, and party members for their dedication, describing them as “true defenders of democracy.”
