Candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has won the polling unit of his Labour Party (LP) rival, George Moghalu, in the ongoing Anambra governorship election.

At polling unit 017 in Uruagu Ward 1, Nnewi North Local Government Area, where Moghalu cast his vote, APGA polled 57 votes to defeat the Labour Party, which secured 22 votes.

The unit has a total of 463 registered voters, with only 86 accredited for the exercise.

Speaking earlier at his residence in Nnewi North, Moghalu expressed disappointment over what he described as widespread vote-buying across the state despite the presence of security operatives.

“The situation is scandalous and very embarrassing. The issue of vote-buying is no longer a speculation.

“It happened very aggressively in the last by-election, and I’ve received similar reports today,” Moghalu told journalists.

He called on relevant authorities to investigate the allegations and ensure that the credibility of the process is not compromised.

Meanwhile, Soludo has described the conduct of the election as largely peaceful.

He noted that reports from across the state indicated smooth voting in most areas.

“There were some technical hitches in a few polling units, especially with the BVAS machines.

“For instance, I got a report from Orumba South that the BVAS wasn’t functioning as expected. But on the average, the process is going on smoothly”, he said.
