Senator Emmanuel Anosike was also picked as Soludo’s running mate at a meeting held in an undisclosed location. This decision was however taken yesterday after a lot of disagreements and defiant behaviours displayed by the aspirants during the stakeholders’ meeting summoned by the PDP national leadership to chart a way forward on the persistent stalemate in the effort to get a governorship candidate for the party in Anambra State.
PDP National Chairman Prince Vincent Ogbulafor told all the invitees, including the 47 governorship aspirants that a candidate must emerge. This remark brought a pin-drop silence in the hall. A meeting of former Anambra PDP state chairmen and executives was called which decided on the option of submitting the name of Dr Alex Ekwueme as temporary gubernatorial candidate pending the conduct of State Congress.
Weekly Trust gathered that the suggestion which was announced by one of the Anambra State chairmen and former PDP National Chairmanship aspirant Dan Ulasi was rejected by the NWC, saying it was alien to PDP Constitution.
When Ogbulafor entered the rescheduled venue of the meeting at Atiku Abubakar Auditorium at Yar’adua Centre along with members of the NWC, he begged the aspirants and informed them that the current development is a disgrace to the party.
He wondered why it is difficult for the 47 aspirants to agree on one candidate among themselves, saying ‘I don’t know whether you are working for other parties or for this party.’
