The Anambra State Internal Revenue Service (AIRS) has stated that it projected revenue collection of N50 billion for the 2022 fiscal year.

Chairman of AIRS, Dr David Nzekwu, made the disclosure on Thursday during an interactive session with journalists in Awka, the state capital.

He said the target for the year was achievable, saying that Anambra has the capacity to generate more than N120bn yearly if the right environment were put in place.

He said that before the advent of the present administration led by Governor Willie Obiano, Anambra was generating N8.7bn yearly, but has recently increased to N28bn yearly.

However, he said as of Tuesday, eight firms in the state were sealed due to tax default, adding that more firms would be sealed within days and weeks for the same offences.

Nzekwu, in response to why AIRS was issuing new contracts in less than two months to the expiration of Obiano’s tenure, said there was nothing wrong with that. “Today, we even concluded the bidding process of some flying revenue windows that we advertised for bidding, and the entire process was done transparently.”
