The Anambra State government has announced plans to establish a basic waste-to-wealth plant in the state.

Governor Willie Obiano, who disclosed this during the recent World Environment Day, lamented that the state was currently being ravaged by erosion, which he attributed partly to the unserious approach of the citizenry to issues concerning the environment.

Speaking through his deputy, Dr. Nkem Okeke, the governor enjoined citizens of the state to adopt positive attitudinal change towards the environment for posterity.

He blamed global warming, green house effect and depletion of the ozone layer to negative attitudes against the environment which, he said, included poor waste disposal, building on water paths and poor construction methods.

He maintained that the state would continue to take more pragmatic steps towards solving the problem and in the process generate revenue.

The Commissioner for Environment, Beautification and Ecology, Romanus Ejikeme, an enginer, had earlier said that the essence of the event was to raise people’s awareness and consciousness towards adopting good attitude and mobilisation for action towards the environment
