The Kano State Chapter Chairman of Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN) Alhaji Abubakar Haruna Aliyu has said that the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Agricultural intervention Programme tagged; Anchor Borrower Programme (ABP) is not President Buhari’s administration’s bonanza to farmers but a result-oriented programme aimed at reviving the agricultural sector.
The chairman stated this exclusively to Daily Trust on Sunday while reacting to speculation that the whole programme is the Buhari administration’s bonanza. According to him, it is unfortunate that a wrong notion has been going round on one of the best government’s interventions ever done by the Nigerian government to improve the agricultural sector of the country.
The RIFAN Chairman explained that the successes recorded by the programme include over 150 new rice mills that have emerged, as well as the creation of huge employment opportunities for a large number of the nation’s populace.

“It is unfortunate that someone went ahead and reported that the programme has been dishing out funds that can’t be recovered and it was also falsely reported that we have set our stores on fire to cover up fraud. These are baseless accusations aimed at destroying all the positive successes recorded by the programme. However, despite several natural disasters that befell farmers in recent years, the association is doing its best to ensure a successful recovery,” said the chairman.
He added that it would be more appropriate for individuals or groups to conduct their investigations thoroughly before going public with information.
