The event which was the climax of a four-day Synod programme saw the award presented to former Vice President of Nigeria, Dr Alex Ekwueme; Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ike Ekwremadu; Oba Adedapo Adewale Tejuoso; Dr Ishaku Danfilo; Prof Olu Aina; and Prof Ifeoma Onyemelukwe.

Other recipients include: Dr Danjuma Sulai; Prof Olugbemiro Jegede; Mr Caleb Duruh; and Capt. U.B. Haruna.

The personalities were picked for their contributions to national unity and development of the country.

The awardees were picked from the Anglican Communion and other Christian denominations such as the Evangelical Church of West Africa (ECWA).

Reason for this, bishop of the diocese, Prof Cornelius Bello said was to further stress the unity amongst Christians.

“The body of Christ is not divided,” he said adding, “it is but one church and acknowledging our brethren from other denominations further portrays this.”

Speaking on behalf of the awardees, Ekwueme expressed gratitude for the recognition.

Represented by his Special Adviser on Religious Affairs, (Christian matters), Rev. Joseph Hayab, Kaduna State Governor, Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa said government was working round-the clock to bring perpetrators of violence to book, vowing that anyone caught will be made to face the full wrath of the law.
