Bishop Adeleye said they would no longer condone improper induction of members into high offices if they did not spend at least two years in any arm of the church. He particularly stressed that members who did not regularise their marriages, or those who keep “extra wives and husbands” would no
longer qualify for induction or promotion. He stressed that they must not wait to be pushed before doing the right thing.
In his over 350-page presidential report to the 2014 Synod, the bishop said: “We shall no longer accept “improper marriages’’ in the Anglican Communion. Before induction into any office, members must regularise their marriages, otherwise they shall no more enjoy available privileges.”
Bishop Adeleye also stressed that apart from fulfilling the 15 marriage conditions, including settling disputes beforehand, no female member shall henceforth stand in proxy for another during a marriage blessing in the church, except if cogent reasons were presented by the head of the women fellowship.
He used the opportunity to announce that inactive and disobedient pastors or other priests who refuse to show remorse over their inadequacies also risk demotion or dismissal from the Anglican Communion.
