The Annur Centre for Islamic Culture said it has concluded the process of expanding the Annur Mosque in Abuja from its present 1,000 capacity to accommodate 7,000 worshippers at a time.
Speaking to Daily Trust on the expansion project yesterday, a Member of the Advisory Council of the centre, Ustaz Abubakar Sadiq Mohammed said the mosque is no longer sufficient for people that attend daily prayers, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
He said the council noticed that people are now forced to pray on roes that stretch to the parking lot of the mosque, saying “The situation is even more serious during Ramadan, that is why we are going to expand the mosque from the present 1,000 capacity to accommodate up to 7,000 people.”
Asked of the source of funding for the project, Ustaz Mohammed said the expansion is to be primarily funded through donations from worshippers, adding that “As Muslims we know the importance of ‘Sadaqatul Jariya’ which is an act with eternal reward. Our main source of funding is crowd donation.
“We are also soliciting for donations through the social media and other contacts to actualize the project.”
