A 28-year-old man has been remanded in custody for allegedly beating a 70-year-old man to death in Ebonyi State.
The accused person, Onwe Maduabuchi, was said to have beaten Okpaga Chukwuma to death with a stick.
It was learnt that the offence was committed at Ndiagu Iyiogwe village, Ukwuagba community, in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state, on January 20.
A Magistrate Court sitting in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, was told that Maduabuchi hit the deceased with a stick at his back and the two sides of his ribs which led to his death.
The Chief Magistrate, Nnenna Onuoha, said the offence was beyond her court to adjudicate.
She directed that the suspect should be remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Abakaliki, while his case file should be transferred to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution in the state for advice.
The matter was thereafter adjourned to March 21.
