A governorship aspirant in Yobe State, Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai, has announced his withdrawal from the 2027 governorship race.
Bomai, who was a leader of the four aggrieved aspirants who rejected the endorsement of Baba Malam Wali as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, said he took the decision after what he described as extensive consultations with stakeholders, elders and political associates.
Bomai, in a statement addressed to his supporters and the people of Yobe State, said the decision was taken in the overall interest of the state and after deep reflection and interventions from party leaders and elders.
He thanked his supporters across the state for their loyalty, sacrifices and commitment throughout the period of consultations and political engagements.

The senator said his ambition was driven by a desire to contribute to the development, unity and progress of Yobe State, adding that he was encouraged by the confidence reposed in him by supporters based on his public service experience.
According to him, despite the collective efforts of his supporters, it was ultimately “not destined to materialise,” stressing that power belongs to Allah who gives authority to whom He wills.
Bomai urged his supporters not to allow the development to divide them or weaken their commitment to the progress of the state.
“While this outcome may not have aligned with the hopes and expectations of many of our supporters, I urge all of you to remain steadfast, calm, united and hopeful,” he said.
He added that the aspirations for improved education, healthcare, security, youth empowerment and economic opportunities in the state remained alive.
Bomai also assured his supporters that he would continue to serve the people of Yobe State with sincerity, humility and dedication despite stepping down from the contest.
Daily Trust reports that the Yobe South Senator took the decision after a closed-door meeting with Governor Mai Mala Buni at the Government House in Damaturu.
Responding, Gov. Buni commended the Senator for his understanding, care and deep concern for the state and the party.
He called on all other aspirants to emulate the Senator and build the party even stronger to approach the 2027 election with a united front.
