A 39-year-old sheriff of the Lagos State High Court, Usman Osakwe, who allegedly assaulted a police officer by pushing him, was yesterday docked in an Ikeja chief magistrate court, Lagos.

Osakwe is facing a three-count charge bordering on assault occasioning harm and a breach of the peace.

The accused, according to the police prosecutor, Inspector Peter Nwangwu, committed the offences on December 17, 2018 at about 10am at No. 6, Oladele Street, Ifako Ijaiye, Lagos.

Nwangwu said that Osakwe pushed Inspector Bolarinde Muyide, who is attached to the Area ‘G’ police command headquarters, Ogba, Lagos, against a wall while the Inspector was performing his lawful duties, thereby causing him grievous harm on his left hand.

Osakwe, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Chief Magistrate, Mrs Y.O. Aje-Afunwa, granted him bail in the sum of

N100,000, with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till February 14, 2019 for mention.
