The police in Gombe State have arraigned a primary school teacher before a chief magistrate court sitting in Tumfure area of Gombe metropolis, over alleged rape of a 12-year-old pupil.

The accused person, Yusuf Abubakar, 43, of Dawaki quarters, a teacher at a primary school in Gombe allegedly on November 8, at about 11:30am picked the victim from the school to a cement shop near the school where he forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.

However, when asked by the court if the allegation was true, the accused person pleaded not guilty.

In view of his statement, the prosecutor, Inspector Habibu Danjuma, applied for adjournment of the case to enable the police complete their investigation and seek legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Chief Magistrate Japhet Maida granted the application and adjourned the case to December 4 for further mentioning and ordered the accused to be remanded in prison custody.
