Seventeen people were reported to have died in Northwest Democratic Republic of Congo as a result of an outbreak of Ebola. Nigerian authorities should please quickly spring into action by taking the immediate necessary measures to check its spread to Nigeria. As Ebola is believed to be spread over long distances by bats and monkeys, and often spreads to humans through infected bush meat, Nigerians should beware of such meat.

Please verify arbitrary fees at Fed Poly Bida
Authorities at the Federal Polytechnic Bida should please investigate arbitrary fees being charged students in some departments. Students have complained of lecturers asking them to pay fees of varying amounts for tests and assignments, frequent seminars and other matters which ordinarily should not be the financial responsibility of students. There is need to check to verify the complaints and the relevance of these fees. It is disgusting that after a parent manages to pay the legal fees of his/her child/ward and is battling for his/her upkeep, lecturers are said to be going about extorting money from students in the guise of assignments and seminars. The school management should please check and educate the public on this.

Stop lingering health workers’ strike
The Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) recently directed its counterparts in states and local governments to join the ongoing health workers strike after series of meetings with the government to resolve the crisis failed to produce positive result. After three weeks on strike by health workers except doctors, laboratories have been shut with no technicians and technologists to attend to patients. This is greatly affecting the masses who cannot afford the outrageous bills in private hospitals. Government should please quickly address the problem to prevent more suffering and death.

Need to resolve the Senate/IGP face-off
It is my belief that the Presidency should not just ignore the on-going face-off between the Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris and the Nigerian Senate which on Wednesday declared the IGP an ‘enemy of democracy,’ that is unfit for public office for refusal to honour invitations to appear before the Senate. The Presidency should intervene before it becomes too late as it cannot, and should not continue to sidon look.
