Barely two weeks after a fuel tanker wreaked havoc in Onitsha, another tanker fire disaster was averted at Nnanedum Oil and Gas Nibo, Awka-South Local government area of Anambra state.
Daily Trust gathered that the tanker was attempting to trans-load premium motor spirit to an underground tank in the filling station when fire started.
A witness who identified himself as Okechukwu said one pump in the filling station and tyres of the tanker were affected by the fire while the petrol in the tanker was still intact.
He said the fire could have escalated to other areas if not for timely intervention of the state fire service.
Reacting, the officer in charge of fire prevention at the state fire service, Engineer Martin Agbili said they were able to mobilize to the scene immediately they were called.
