A man, Usman Ali, has taken his wife, Maryam Ali, to a Sharia Court in Jaba quarters, Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State, accusing her of stealing three of his mobile phones, valued at N65,000. The couple had recently married.

Usman Ali also accused three of his bride’s friends of negatively influencing her behavior, claiming they encouraged her to exhibit what he termed “wayward behaviors.”

However, Maryam denied the allegation, stating that Ali was repeatedly beating her in their matrimonial home.

She told the court that she fled their home in Abuja to Kano to escape the alleged assaults, seeking refuge at her parents’ house.

The judge, Ustaz Rabiu Yahaya, granted Maryam bail and adjourned the case to July 15 for further hearing.
