Nigeria Set To Implement $750m World Bank COVID-19 Intervention
The Federal Government says the 36 states and Federal Capital Territory are ready to start implementing of the World Bank-assisted $750m Nigeria COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) Programme.
Chairman, Federal CARES Technical Committee, Aso Vakporaye, said the World Bank was satisfied with the readiness of the states and the FCT to commence the programme.
COVID-19: We’re Investigating Officials Aiding Quarantine Evasion —FG
The Federal Government says it is investigating reported cases of on-duty staff who extort money from travelers wishing to evade quarantine requirement of the COVID-19 protocols.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Chairman, Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, said this at a briefing of the committee in Abuja.
15% Businesses Expanded Using Tech Despite COVID-19 — Report
A report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has revealed that 15 per cent of businesses were able to expand their operations during the COVID-19 pandemic while incorporating technology to conduct business.
The report titled: “The Impact of COVID-19 on Business Enterprises in Nigeria,” was launched by NBS in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). 3,000 people were interviewed from both the formal and informal sectors.
1.8m Nigerians Fully Vaccinated – FG
The federal government has said that six months after Nigeria commenced the vaccination of its citizens against the COVID-19 pandemic, over 1.8 million eligible people have been fully vaccinated.
The Executive Director, National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr Faisal Shuaib, said this at the national briefing of the Presidential Steering Committee (PSC) on Monday.
You Are Not Safe During Strike, Pfizer Boss Tells Doctors, Others
The Country Manager of Pfizer Nigeria, Yinka Subair, has cautioned health workers in the country against incessant strike, saying they can also fall victims of their action.
Subair, who is a Fellow of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), gave the caution in his keynote address at the ongoing 2021 Scientific Week of the PSN, Lagos State Branch.
Covid antiviral pill can halve risk of hospitalisation
An experimental drug for severe COVID cuts the risk of hospitalisation or death by about half, interim clinical trial results suggest. The tablet – molnupiravir – was given twice a day to patients recently diagnosed with the disease.
US drug-maker, Merck, said its results were so positive that outside monitors had asked to stop the trial early.
COVID: One in 20 secondary-age children infected in England
One in every 20 children of secondary school age in England is infected with coronavirus, according to the latest estimates from the Office for National Statistics.
This is the highest reported rate for this age group – or any other – since the pandemic began. Children’s risk from the virus is very low, and serious illness is rare.
