The former Governor claimed that ANPP was shortchanged during the governorship election in the state. “As far as we are concerned, Kano State is still an ANPP state. We got over one million votes in the election and we knew what happened during the election; we were shortchanged. And that is why we are following the only civilised way to get our stolen mandate through the tribunal,” he said.

Shekarau however, called on the party’s supporters to continue to support the party no matter the outcome of the tribunal judgement. He noted that, despite the defeat of ANPP in the last April elections by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kano is still a stronghold of the ANPP.

He commended the foresight of Mr. Onu who is in the state to commiserate with the members of the party that were affected during the post-election violence. “We thank you for coming to commiserate with us; I commend the foresight of your leadership; of your concern for the survival of your members. We feel more strengthened by your visit,” he said.
