Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari, to beam his searchlight on pro-chancellors and vice-chancellors of Nigerian universities in his fight against corruption.
It alleged that there is massive corruption in the university system.
SSANU  also condemned militancy and terrorism ravaging many parts of country, stating that no country develops where there are security treats and has called on he federal government to do the needful to engage agitators in dialogue for peace to reign in the country.
The National President of SSANU, Comrade Samson Chijioke Ugwoke, made these calls at the association’s National Executive Council, NEC meeting, held at Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State.
Ugwoke  also urged the federal government to embark on training and retraining programme for the Nigeria police to reduce incidences of accidental discharge which had claimed the lives of innocent citizens. He further frowned at the attitude of some state governors who were on their second tenure on how they allegedly treat their people as second hand citizens and embark on programmes that have no direct impact on the people and even owed workers in the state for several months.
In a communique after the meeting which was signed by the association’s President, Comrade Ugwoke and the National Public Relations Officer, NPRO, Salaam Abdussobur, SSANU commended President Buhari in his efforts to rid the country of corruption but tasked him to shift the fight to the university system. 
“SSANU however urges the federal government to do more, by shifting its attention from the political class, and beaming its searchlight on the Nigerian university system. NEC noted various allegations against pro-chancellors, vice-chancellors and councils, involved in fraudulent actions, illegal appointments, shady contracts, diversion of funds, and other corrupt practices. NEC agreed that the level of rot and sleaze in our university system needs to be checked, as our ivory towers are now havens of corruption being run by greedy, inept, incompetent and rapacious administrators,” the union said.
