Ahead of Tuesday’s national election of the Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC), there is palpable tension, over the police invitation of the incumbent president of the council and National Chairman of the Progressive People’s Alliance (PPA), Chief Peter Ameh.

Ameh, who is seeking re-election, is among the 22 candidates who have been screened to contest the election. He said he was first invited by the police on September 5, 2018, the day of the election of  IPAC that he won, after several unsuccessful attempts to frame him so that he would not be able to contest, as he was supposed to be detained over a petition against him by some members. According to him, he has once again been invited by the police on Monday, a day before the election of the new leaders of which he is also a contestant.

He said the SMS inviting him stated that he was being invited over the ongoing investigation into the case of criminal conspiracy and criminal misappropriation reported to the Inspector General of Police by some IPAC members.

He wondered why he was being invited over a petition that has been disowned by one of the purported petitioners and National Chairman of the Independent Democrats (ID), Chief Edozie Madu, who swore an affidavit that his signature was forged to raise the petition. He expressed surprise that another petition is being raised on the matter that has been resolved by the General Assembly, which is the highest decision making body of IPAC.
