APC alleges plot to assassinate Peterside

The party alleged in a petition addressed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that there were clear threats to peaceful polls in the local government.
The petition, which was signed by APC chairman in the local government and his Ogu/Bolo counterpart, Christian Asifamaka and Chief Isreal Iboms, and made available to journalists in Abuja, said there were clear violation of their fundamental human rights as well attempted assassination of Peterside.
“On the 24th of January 2015, APC gubernatorial rally in Okrika was violently disrupted by gunmen who claimed they were acting based on orders from Abuja.  This led to the cancellation of the same in Ogu/Bolo LGA slated for 25th January 2015.
“On the 17th February, 2015 the Police, DSS, JTF and all other relevant security agencies were mobilized to ensure that the APC campaign rally and voters education programme was not disrupted.
“Unfortunately, gunmen descended upon the campaign ground, engaged the security agencies, overpowered them and successfully stopped us from holding our rally.
“In the ensuing shootout Dr Dakuku Peterside, the APC governorship candidate for Rivers State was almost assassinated, a police Corporal Ifeanyi Okorie was killed by the gun men, several other security personnel were injured, hundreds of APC members were attacked and injured while several properties worth millions of naira were destroyed,” they alleged.
