The call was made in a statement issued in Lagos yesterday by spokesman of the party Alhaji Lai Mohammed.
The party referred to  Obasanjo’s allegation about the existence of a killer squad and the personalities placed on watch list by the government, saying it would not relent from its resolve to save Nigeria’s democracy.
It said many people have sacrificed their lives to entrench democracy in the country before the coming of the present crop of opportunists into the political landscape.
“Our country is drifting dangerously and our people are divided now perhaps more than at any other point in our history, with the exception of the civil war period.
“There is a total failure of leadership, even as insecurity, unprecedented corruption, palpable impunity, massive unemployment and hunger stalk the land.
“The talk out there now is that Nigeria has never had it so bad. But the government may not know because it has distanced itself from the people. Therefore, for embracing corruption so much and providing succour to corrupt public officials; for threatening the country’s fragile unity through divisive policies and politics, for frittering away the nation’s resources through unprecedented cronyism and clannishness, and for a total failure of leadership, this President deserves to be slammed with the cudgel of impeachment,” the statement said .
It warned that, if the National Assembly refuses to act quickly, it would share in the blame of the failure of the government to provide security of lives and property to the people as well as employment for unemployed youth in the country. The party said those who regard the impeachment of the president as an unjustified should remember that, the gross misconducts perpetrated by the administration is leading the country to chaos and the abuse of rule of law as exhibited by series of illegalities conducted with some compromised judges selected to do the PDP’s dirty jobs.
“One such scenario is the present challenge in court by the PDP of the defection to the APC of five state governors. The PDP has gone to court fully aware of the ruling of the Supreme Court after the party (PDP) attempted to make then Vice President Atiku Abubakar to lose his seat and to also strip him of his privileges following his defection to the ACN,” the statement added.
APC stressed that if the PDP went ahead with its plan of declaring the seats of the defected governors vacant or any act of impunity on the matter, there would be a stiff resistance by all progressives and the people of the country.
