A House of Representatives aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, Segun Tomori, has called for unity within the party ahead of Saturday’s primaries in Oshodi-Isolo Constituency II.

Tomori, a former media aide to the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, said internal divisions contributed to the party’s defeat in the constituency during the 2023 elections.

In a statement issued on Thursday, he said the APC lost the seat because of “warring factions of diverse camps fighting for supremacy” and “a lacklustre incumbent lacking the gravitas and energy to rally constituents behind the party.”

He said the divisions within the party had deepened ahead of the primaries.

“Amongst the contending gladiators are those who have become sworn political adversaries, whose supporters have vowed to fight to the finish,” he said.

Tomori said members of the party were looking for a candidate capable of uniting the APC ahead of the next election.

“That is why I have stepped into this race: to offer the much-needed breath of fresh air,” he said.

He added that his ambition was not tied to any faction within the party.

“My mission is not to take sides with warring factions but to offer myself as a unifier,” he said.

Tomori called on party leaders and members in the constituency to support his bid at the primaries.
