Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State yesterday endorsed Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura for the national chairmanship position of the party.

The party had fixed February 26 for the national convention of the party, where a new crop of National Working Committee (NWC) will emerge.

Our correspondent reports that hundreds of party members from across the state converged at the Government House, Lafia.

Addressing the party stalwarts, the state Governor, Abdullahi Sule, described Al-Makura, who is his predecessor as the most qualified person to lead the party to victory in 2023.

 “For now, Senator Al-Makura is the only candidate who has indicated his interest to contest the position of national chairman of the party. If he eventually becomes the national chairman, he will uphold the APC constitution, respect the party’s organs, among others,” he said.

 He said Al-Makura, who represents Nasarawa South Senatorial District stands tall among all other aspirants in the race considering his experience, capability, integrity, and support among all interests in the party.

Earlier, the state Chairman of the party, Dr. John Mamman, said if Al-Makura is elected, he will work towards ensuring that APC becomes a model in political party administration in Nigeria and beyond.

Meanwhile, a former Minister of State for Information and Communications, Alhaji Dasuki Nakande, has described Al-Makura, as the best person for the position.

Nakande also noted that zoning of the position by the party to the North Central, was a good decision if taken by the party.
