The promotion of a former governor of Zamfara State, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari, as the most suitable candidate for the chairmanship position of the APC in the next national convention has created a crack in the APC Aspirants Forum.
The office of APC national chairman became vacant following the dissolution of the Adams Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee (NWC) by the National Executive Committee (NEC) over alleged abuse of office.
A caretaker committee headed by Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni was, however, constituted in June 2020, to run the party and organise a national convention within six months.
The National Coordinator, APC Aspirants Forum, Bashir Muhammed Yusif, in a statement on Tuesday, said Yari would return the party to its lost glory and prepare it to retain power in 2023 if given the mandate.
“The moment the APC is unable to produce a reliable, knowledgeable and hardworking executive, the situation the party found itself during the 2019 primaries may reoccur.
“The 2019 experience was a sad moment which genuine APC members would not want to see repeat itself as we work towards retaining our party’s position at the national, state and local government levels,” he said.
However, the endorsement was faulted in another statement by the national secretary of the forum, Sheriff Yusuf Banki. He said Bashir Muhammed Yusif was unanimously suspended as BOT chairman of the APC Aspirants’ Forum in 2019 for gross misconduct and non-payment of full expression of interest and nomination fees for the House of Representatives.
He said Yusif has not been readmitted and urged him to immediately stop parading himself as national coordinator of the forum.
