A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Director General of the Confederation of All Progressive Congress (APC) Support Groups (CASG), Prof Muhammad Abubakar Kailani, has charged the National Assembly to pripritise welfarist laws that would strengthen democracy and good governance in the country.

He gave the charge Monday night in Abuja during his decoration as a Professor of Electrical/Electronics, by the British American University, Florida, USA.

He said that he would strengthen his commitment to collaborating with the federal lawmakers to eliminate obstacles and ensure the inclusion of an enabling environment in the constitution, fostering a conducive atmosphere for engineers to perform optimally for the welfare of the citizenry as part of the dividends of democracy.

The university also appointed Prof. Kailani, who has Doctorate degree in Electrical/Electronics engineering, as the Chairman of the University’s Governing Council in Nigeria.

“I am dedicated to advocating for legislative templates from the National Assembly to remove obstacles and establish an enabling environment in our constitution, creating a friendly atmosphere for engineers to excel.

“This would make them to perform optimally by the enabling and condusive laws for democratic dividends and good governance,” Prof Kailani said.

He said he sees this recognition from the institution as a challenge to contribute more robustly to the advancement of engineering, particularly in Electrical/Electronic sphere for the development of the nation.

He attributed the challenges faced by Nigerian engineers to insufficient power generation, funding and investment constraints, lack of maintenance, fuel supply issues, and enabling laws among others.

To address these challenges, he urged the federal government to invest in renewable energy, increased investments in sources like solar and wind to diversify the energy mix and provide sustainable alternatives.

In his keynote, Prof. Muhammad Omolaja, President of the British American University, Florida, USA, expressed confidence in Prof. Kailani, stating, “I have no doubt that he stands out as a world-class professor among his colleagues worldwide.

“He is intelligent, knowledgeable, broad-minded, brave, sagacious, honest, painstaking, hardworking, dependable, social, and sociable. Prof. Kailani Abubakar Muhammad is not only a team leader and player but is also capable of working independently without supervision.”
