The fate of the Adams Oshiomhole’s sacked National Working Committee (NWC) members in the All Progressives Congress (APC) is hanging in the balance as the National Executive Committee (NEC) meets.
A member of the APC National Caucus, told our correspondent in confidence yesterday, that the ex-NWC members were risking their membership of the ruling party.
“If NEC asked them not to go to court and they went to court, the consequences that will befall them depend on what NEC will do.
“NEC may take any action against them; it could be suspension or total expulsion from the party especially if at the end of the day, the court does not favour them.
“So, what they are doing now, they are risking suspension and even expulsion from the party,” he added.
The Oshimhole-led NWC was dissolved by NEC on June 25, 2020, over alleged abuse of office.
Sequel to this, NEC inaugurated the Governor Mai Mala Buni-led Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee to take charge of the day-to-day running of the party and to organise a national convention within six months.
But while the caretaker is left with just a month to the expiration of its timeline, the former National Vice Chairman (South), and ex-Acting Chairman of the APC, Hilliard Eta, has asked the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, to declare NEC’s decision a nullity and declare him as the Acting National Chairman of the party.
The APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Yekini Nabena told our correspondent in a telephone chat yesterday, that NEC would soon meet to deliberate on the issue but however, did not confirm the date for the meeting.
