The All Progressives Congress (APC) Screening Committee has disqualified 113 aspirants seeking a contest for seats in the Kwara State House of Assembly.

The development was disclosed in the screening report signed by Kwara APC Publicity Secretary, Abdulwaheed Babatunde.

This contest for elective positions in the party has become fierce lately despite talks around consensus.

A total of 158 aspirants appeared before the screening committee, with 113 disqualified and 45 cleared to participate in the primary elections.

The names of the uncleared aspirants were displayed at the APC state secretariat in Ilorin, while the list of cleared aspirants was not made public.

Some serving lawmakers were among those not cleared, although the majority of affected aspirants are new entrants into the race.

According to the party, the affected aspirants were not cleared during the screening exercise conducted on May 11.

Speaking before the commencement of the screening exercise on Monday, APC State Chairman, Sunday Fagbemi, and Chairman of the Screening Committee, Professor Success Musa, assured aspirants of a fair and transparent process.

They described the large number of aspirants as a reflection of internal democracy within the party.
