The All Progressives Congress (APC) has inaugurated its Environment and Sanitation Sub-Committee ahead of the party’s 2026 National Convention, with a commitment to ensuring a clean and safe environment during the event.

The inauguration, held on Wednesday, was performed by former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim, who serves as Deputy Chairman of the Convention Central Committee.

The sub-committee is chaired by Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, who was represented at the event by the state Commissioner for Environment.

Speaking at the ceremony, Anyim expressed confidence in the committee’s capacity to deliver on its mandate, noting that a clean and orderly environment is critical to the success of the convention and the image of the party.

He also commended the Secretary of the committee, Uche Ekwunife, for her organisational ability and dedication.

In her remarks, Ekwunife thanked the party leadership for the confidence reposed in the committee, assuring that it had commenced strategic planning to ensure a hygienic and well-managed environment before, during and after the convention.

She announced plans for a sensitisation programme tagged “Walk for Safe Environment and Safety,” aimed at promoting environmental responsibility among stakeholders and participants.

Ekwunife said the committee would be guided by its theme, “Cleaner Abuja, Great Convention,” under the broader “Keep APC Convention Clean Initiative.”

The APC national convention is scheduled to hold on March 28 and 29 in Abuja, with the committee pledging to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to maintain environmental standards throughout the event.
