APC is a fraud, Shekarau says

He described the APC as a political fraud.
Sheakarau said if he had his way, the APC leadership would be sacked as it has failed to put up a structure for the party within six months.
The former governor also expressed regrets the merger of the defunct legacy parties into the APC, saying the outcome was not commensurate with the level of sacrifice put into it.
He said only agreed to collapse the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) to deepen democracy in the country only to be betrayed by anti democratic stance of the APC leaders.
Speaking at the declaration which held at the Yar’Adua Center in Abuja, the former governor who was joined by former governor of Sokoto State Attahiru Bafarawa, explained he left APC because it has become the antithesis of the democratic institution it promised while allowing itself to be hijacked by a few individuals.
He said when the party constituted the interim management committee, it had a mandate to conclude its assignment within six months but that since January 31 when the six month elapsed, the committee has continued without bothering to tell anyone where it derived its mandate from.
He said: “People who call themselves experienced leaders of political parties, we handed to them structures of the party to give us a structure within six months, after six months no structure of the party is in place, I cannot belong to such disorder, such high level display of caricature of Nigeria’s democracy.”
Shekarau wrote off the ongoing membership registration exercise of the party as a sham, saying it is out of order for the exercise to take place without elected officials of the party in place to conduct it.
Interim national publicity secretary of the APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, however, described Shekarau as ignorant of the workings of a party he had been part and parcel of.
He said for the former governor to describe the APC as fraudulent goes to prove recent observations that his personality is being diminished by the day since he has been part of the APC until recently.
Mohammed said the APC manifesto is not hidden as it is on the party’s website and was submitted to INEC in the process of registration as well as the party’s Constitution.
He said contrary to Shekarau’s claims, there was no six-month time limit set for the interim committee in the final copy of the party’s constitution submitted by INEC.
