Gov Agbu Kefas

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the postponement of the planned reception in honour of Taraba State governor, Agbu Kefas.

The event, earlier scheduled for yesterday, had been deferred, with a new date to be communicated in due course.

The APC, in a statement yesterday by its National Publicity Secretary, Barrister Felix Morka, clarified that the postponement was in recognition of the tragic loss of military officers and civilians to terrorist attacks, and the abduction of school girls in Kebbi State on Monday.

Recall that APC leaders had planned to receive Governor Kefas, who earlier announced that he would be defecting from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday.

The APC noted that it reached the decision as a mark of respect and mourning for the fallen heroes and innocent citizens whose lives were cut short by what it described as “enemies of the state.”

The ruling party said, “We salute the courage and sacrifices of our gallant men and women in uniform who continually put their lives on the line in defence of our liberty and security.”

The statement further reaffirmed the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to eliminating insurgency, banditry, and all forms of violent criminality across the country.

Meanwhile, the Taraba State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Abubakar Bawa, has officially  defected to the APC.

In a sweeping wave of defections, all Taraba State commissioners, special advisers, and 16 recently elected local government chairmen, who assumed office on the platform of the PDP, also defected to the APC yesterday.

Pundits disclosed that the defection of the state PDP chairman  has effectively collapsed the party’s structure across Taraba, as most key officials at both state and local government levels have already switched allegiance to the APC.

The expected defection of Governor Kefas has reportedly triggered a massive movement of PDP members at the grassroots, with hundreds said to be preparing to follow the governor to the APC.
